TODAY'S TOP STORIES

1. VISA LAUNCHES AGENT SCORE, AGENTIC REGISTRY & STABLECOIN SETTLEMENT AT PAYMENTS FORUM 2026

Visa announced three new capabilities at its Payments Forum 2026: Agent Score (with New Generation AI), Agentic Registry, and Large Transaction Model—designed specifically for AI agent-initiated commerce. Visa also unveiled stablecoin settlement capabilities and token enhancements, partnering with OpenAI for tokenized credential trust in agent transactions. Jack Forestell (Chief Product & Strategy Officer): "AI is transforming the front end of commerce. Stablecoins are reshaping the back end. Visa's role is to enable it to work securely, reliably and at global scale."

So what? Agent Score means Visa is building trust infrastructure for AI agents the same way it built trust for card-present transactions. The OpenAI partnership puts Visa inside the most widely used AI assistant at the moment commerce agents are becoming real. For payments infrastructure: whoever owns the agent trust layer owns the authorization stack. Visa is betting that's them.

2. AGENTIC COMMERCE IS RESHAPING COMPETITION AMONG PAYMENT PROVIDERS

S&P Global's 2026 Voice of the Enterprise Merchant Study shows 65% of merchants strongly agree they are considering adding a new payment partner to support agentic commerce initiatives. 55% of merchants believe AI agents will become a major new transaction channel; two-thirds believe agents could initiate at least 10% of their ecommerce transactions. Critically: infrastructure decisions are being made now—merchant payment teams are evaluating partners before transaction volumes materialize.

So what? Agentic is in full hype mode and its hard for me to parse the PR announcements everyday. This survey does show action on retailers looking to stay on top of new demand.

3. WALMART LAUNCHES OPENAI CERTIFICATION FOR STORE-LEVEL EMPLOYEES

Walmart launched an OpenAI certification program for store associates after launching a similar Google certification earlier this year. The first participant was 43-year veteran Darlene Lane, who describes herself as "probably the least technical person you will ever meet." Lane uses AI as a "thought partner" for training design, scheduling dashboards for store managers, and turning dense text into graphics for merchandising associates. Walmart is operationalizing AI across 1.6M US store employees—not just corporate functions.

So what? This is workforce transformation at retail scale. For payments: AI-assisted associates means smarter checkout management, faster exception handling, and eventually agent-assisted in-store recommendations.

4. EU COUNCIL ADVANCES BUSINESS WALLET FRAMEWORK FOR CORPORATE DIGITAL IDENTITY

The EU Council's General Secretariat presented the European Business Wallet (EBW) proposal—an 84-page regulation extending the EUDI (European Digital Identity) framework to companies. EBWs would use qualified electronic signatures, digital attribute attestations, and Level of Assurance "High"—the same biometric standards as citizen EUDI Wallets. The framework would enable companies to digitally manage licensing, compliance filings, tax registrations, and authorizations across all 27 EU member states.

So what? The European Business Wallet is the B2B layer on top of the EU's citizen digital identity infrastructure—and it has direct payments implications. Businesses using EBWs would authenticate cross-border transactions, payment authorizations, and compliance filings with machine-readable credentials, replacing manual checks. This accelerates EU payment rails by removing identity friction from the merchant onboarding and B2B payment verification stack. The European Commission estimates EUR 150B in projected annual savings.

6. OPENAI'S CHATGPT ADS GAIN LIVERAMP AS FIRST CONVERSION API PARTNER

OpenAI's ChatGPT Ads platform added LiveRamp as its first conversion API measurement partner. LiveRamp's Clean Room technology enables privacy-safe attribution between ad exposure and purchase outcomes without sharing raw user data. This signals ChatGPT moving from content/engagement to commerce-layer advertising with closed-loop measurement.

So what? ChatGPT gaining closed-loop attribution closes the last gap between content and commerce. LiveRamp's Clean Room approach sidesteps privacy regulations (GDPR, CCPA) that blocked prior cookie-based attribution. See my prior measrement blogs on topic.

7. JPMORGAN CHASE PLANS TO DEPLOY MORE POWERFUL AI AGENTS IN 2026

JPMorgan Chase plans to deploy more powerful AI agents in 2026 across trading, risk, and customer service operations. CEO Jamie Dimon has described AI as transformational—JP Morgan runs 1,000+ AI use cases internally. The bank signals agents will move beyond assistive roles to autonomous decision-making in financial operations.
